At first when I heard it was going to be another snow/ice weather forecast. I dreaded it. My backyard is muddy goo. so gross. I did look foreword to putting another snow outfit on Gus, but mostly it was dreading coldness & preplanning meals.
Then I walked into this. [ turned around grabbed camera ] & REwalked into this.
Once again, the snow had been an answer to prayers. Prayers I’ve been tossing up usually with an eye roll & not much of an “amen” at the end. Prayers that sounded more like this ” i can not WAIT til basketball season is OVER”. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE THE SPORT, I LOVE THE SCHOOL , I LOVE THE KIDS! Ask anyone in the stands, I LOVE THE GAME! This year is different, not my feelings for the game, but I am jealous of it. It wouldn’t be right for me to get Gus out in bad weather, or on long road games. We miss Renner. He coaches 7th-Sr High, that’s a game almost every night. He leaves about 6 every morning to open the Gym earlier for kids to shoot. And gets home at 10, 11 or 12 depending on game location & parents picking up kids. By that time he is so worn out, he tries to stay up to see Gus, but they are both sleepy boys by that time. Then there is sometimes middle of the night cries for food. Renner is going on maybe 4 hours of sleep every night & starting over everyday.
Even tho the snow makes the school year longer, by the time that may is here Ren won’t be gone every night. SO while this weather might drive us crazy there are people like me, realizing what a beautiful blessing it is. It’s a little “time-out” from the Lord, & in today’s fast world …we could all use a break. Take advantage of it.
I had to go ahead and share a couple from this weeks session with Little Miss C!! Isn’t she adorable?? I just love this style!! Honestly I never really saw myself doing child photography, even after having my little guy a few months ago. What I realized is I am NO newborn photographer, but this age is FUN!! Even making the set up for this session was fun!! Another blog post of this session is in the future bc there are 3 other little outfits and sets I want to share!!
Working on one of my newest collaborations, that I am soooo excited about!! Not only about the amazing high fashion formals that they carry, but also about working with the Ladies at Always & Forever in Fort Smith! Just like my girl Tasha at Suite One, Stacey the owner of Always & Forever is my age making huge waves in her industry. Both of them are considered the “go to” not just in our city but in our region.
Tomorrow Gus will be 2 months old!! As a photog I think the timing was perfect! Even tho we are in the south, and the 3rd trimester did have it’s hot days. Winter is cold here… we have already had snow days ( thank the GOOD LORD we were one of the few who never lost power in the snow!! ) The question I get the most is… “so how do you like being a mommy?” well i think i haven’t been 100% truthful with people that have asked me. I saw a post that our church (which we have been missing since gus was born- CONFESSION) put up a graphic from our lead pastors book ( i think it is, could be wrong!) Ab being authentic & that should be easy here to do on my blog, since I don’t have a big following.
Here’s the truth to “so how do you like being a mommy?” : I don’t know. Don’t get me wrong. I love Gus, it’s a new love that I had never imagined the strength of. He is such a good baby, from what I know of babies! Here’s the thing I don’t know how I like being mommy, bc I’m always questioning, how I am doing as a mom. Feeling guilty that I am not getting up at 4 with a smile on my face. There are moments of panic. The other night we were in my husband’s car, the one that didn’t have the spare change of clothes & of course that’s when we need it. I think my answer is closer to
” I wouldn’t trade it for the world but I have so much to learn &&& I appreciate my mama, as well as moms everywhere, a lot more!”
This session is a photographer’s dream! A client that completely trust your vision & encourages it!! This type of session doesn’t happen by mistake or on accident. You need to participate in the pre-session!! Photographer’s are a visual people & so are clients, so a phone call with a word like “headbands, tribal, boho, freepeople style.. etc” helps but isn’t clear. In the age of Pinterest there is so much out there to help you SHOW your vision better before the shoot. make a moodboard of images and send them to your client, see what they think & if you can’t see their clothes in person before the shoot ask them to send pictures of the clothes they have and ideas they have, dont be suprised if they say “i dont have ideas i trust you” bc they must like your ideas already, they booked you! Also if you want to try a couple new things like i brought the feather headpiece & the flower headband, be willing to shoot the outfit with out the prop first & then add it in after, also if it’s a bit daring like the feathers. Your client will feel more at ease seeing a shot of it on before shooting 20+ more frames. That confidence & relief transfers into the session, & you’ll find the posing much more fluid!
